Propagation 1 – Autumn Techniques (Lifting and Dividing Herbaceous Perennials, Bulb and Shrub Planting)
Winter Techniques (Propagating Plants by Hardwood Cuttings, Root Cutting and Layering)
Pruning (Pruning of different types of Roses, Training and Pruning of Fruit Trees and Winter Planting techniques)
Understanding Soils, Composting and Soil Improvement (Identify Soil types, Green Manures Methods, Soil Cultivation Techniques and No Dig Methods)
Propagation 3 – Spring Techniques (Propagation from seed indoors and in open ground, and looking after Growing Plants, Pricking out, Potting on etc.)
Protected Growing (Growing using Polytunnels and managing the growing environment, soil management, irrigation, Pests and Diseases etc.)
Planting and Maintaining Growing Plants (Planting out container grown plants, watering, weeding, mulching, supporting and feeding)
This course is run as stand alone days throughout the year, so that you learn skills naturally as the season progresses. You can attend as many or few days as you wish, and book as you go. If you wish to be assessed for the City and Guilds qualification you will need to attend a minimum of 1 day and 1 assessment session for an award, 3 days and 2 assessment sessions for a certificate and 5/6 days plus 3/4 assessment sessions for a diploma, dependent upon which skills you choose.
We pride ourselves in delivering horticultural courses that are unique. You will have access to the full range of resources at our cut flower nursery, and have the chance to learn through lots of hands-on activities.
Course days will include all the principles of organic horticulture – from soil management, plant propagation, plant establishment, plant maintenance, pest and disease control, to plant characteristics, composting, companion planting, and much, much more!
Cost includes all materials. Please bring a packed lunch to enjoy in our gardens.
In order to gain the City and Guilds qualification students will need to attend separate assessment mornings quarterly (dates are TBA) There will be an additional fee for assessment, registration and certification. Attendance on the course does not guarantee success in the qualification. Candidates will have to meet the City and Guilds qualification standards.
Coronavirus Covid19
Organic Blooms is currently unaffected by the coronavirus Covid19 and we are running all our courses and workshops as usual. All of our groups are small and much of the activity takes place outside in the fresh air. We also encourage all participants to follow current guidelines on hand washing and catching coughs and sneezes.
Any participant who is unwell on the morning of the course of workshop should not come. If this is the case please email us and we will arrange for you to transfer your booking to an alternative course or workshop.
